There was a Qari who was a poet too. He went to Allama Iqbal. When Allama came to know that the visitor is also a Reciter (Qari) too he requested for some recitation. After hearing the recitation the Allama said that I make this an admonition as well as a will to you that focus on recitation-there is nothing in poetry and go to Maulana Thanwi (RA). This Qari did the same. Hazrat Thanwi (RA) gave him the title of gentleman Qari because he had no beard at that time. I had met this Qari in Hyderabad, he was very old, in fact Allama himself expired in 1930AC.
