It is not a news to most of the people visiting this blog that the sitting (majlis) of a Shaikh mostly consists of those who shall be scrambling for his shoes when he enters the mosque. What do these Shaikhs think of these scramblers? Only once it has happened in so many years that Hazrat Shaikh (DB) got help up before the sitting and was a few minutes late. "Lost so much time of pious company (sohbat)?", Hazrat was overheard saying. Strange indeed is this for these are the people who are aware about the meanest realities of we the dirty people.
Thus once Qari Amir Hasan Sahab (DB) said that do not hesitate to state your condition to the Elders for fear of as what they might think. They think of themselves to be the lowest of all. Strange indeed it is. Great is our Lord Almighty.
Qari Amir Hasan Sahab (DB) again. When he is present in Anona House Hazrat Shaikh (DB) after his inspiring speech will request Qari Sahab (DB) to say a few things. Qari Sahab (DB) sometimes will begin by saying, "As Hazrat said". Hazrat means Hazrat Shaikh (DB). Now this is strange because Qari Sahab (DB) is much senior to Hazrat Shaikh (DB). He belongs to the company of Muhi-us-Sunnah Hazrat Abrar-ul-Haq Sahab (NM). Indeed he is referred to as the Last of the Pious Predecessors. But that is the reality, he thinks nothing of himself. Then there are stories of his humility that will make you run to kiss his knees.
Then there is the story of Hazrat Syed Abul Hasan Ali Nadwi (RA). People ask him to bless children. "Hazrat put your hand on the head of my son", they will say. He'll be very reluctant to do that. But people usually will insist. In such cases he'll do as they would say. Once one associate got to hear the supplication made by him. He was saying the things to the effect that O Allah this child is innocent and I am a sinner, make me innocent like this child. Strange indeed is the world of our Pious Predecessors.
Finally there is the story of Hazrat Haji Imdadullah Makkah Migratory (QS) as told by Hazrat Ashraf Ali Thanwi (NM). Haji Sahab used to make strange intention at the time of Agreement (bayt) with a disciple. He would say that I am having this Agreement with the hope that because of the blessings of the company of this disciple I'd become pious.
