There are three aspects of wishing people Peace (salam). Excess, Initiative and Health. (Excess means to wish people again and again at each and every opportunity. Initiative means to be the first to offer salutations of peace. To day people wait for others to wish them. finally health means that the words of salutation must be pronounced properly.) In particular MU in assalaMUalaikum becomes loose, that is, it becomes MO and people say assalaMOalaikum. Moreover the initial letter a of Assalamualaikum is also deleted and people say Salamualaikum. This too is incorrect.
