Knowledge is of two types. One that grants you gnosis, recognizing Allah (SWT). The other one is useful for gaining livelihood. In the former case you also get reward for knowing Allah (SWT). In the latter case you do not get any reward if your intentions are not pure.
It is immaterial whether the recipients of knowledge are a few. Once I was with Shah Wasiullah Sahab (RA) alone. He conducted the Majlis for two hours. I too did neither yawned nor got bored.
